Franz Rompza

Franz Rompza (born February 12, 1934 in Seehof ) is a former German sword fencer , German champion and participant in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 and in Mexico in 1968 .

Rompza fought for the Heidenheimer SB and won the international tournament in Brussels in 1963. In 1965 he became German single champion in epee fencing.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, he took part both individually and with the team. In the individual he finished seventh, with the team he was sixth. In 1968 he finished in a shared 13th place in the individual in Mexico, with the team he just missed the medal ranks. The German sword team finished fourth behind Hungary, the Soviet Union and Poland.

After his active career, he trained as a fencing master in Cologne. He then took a position as a university fencing master in Bern, where he trained both sports fencers and fraternity students. He stayed in Bern until he retired in 1999.
