Franz "Franky" Schiemer (born March 21, 1986 in Haag am Hausruck ) is a former Austrian football player and now football coach .

Career

As a player

Franz Schiemer began his football career (back then as a striker) in his home town of Taufkirchen an der Trattnach , after which he came to SV Ried through coach Karl Franz . From the junior teams he was able to work his way up to the combat team, where he earned a regular place in the second-rate first division in 2003/04 . With the U-17 national team he was able to reach 3rd place at the 2003 European Championships in Portugal .

After Rieder rose to the Bundesliga in 2005, he moved to Vienna Austria , where he had to play his way back into the first team via the amateur team. In 2005/06 Austria became Austrian champions , Franz Schiemer was able to book five appearances.

In 2007 he won a regular place and also made his debut in the Austrian national team on October 13 when he came on for the injured Sebastian Prödl against Switzerland . There he was called up regularly after showing strong performances against stars like Didier Drogba and Peter Crouch . The Bundesliga coach selected him behind Ivica Vastić for the 2007 season player. He was part of the extended Austrian squad for the 2008 European Championship in his own country, but was struck by team boss Josef Hickersberger before the tournament from the final squad.

For the 2009/10 season Schiemer moved to FC Red Bull Salzburg , where he was initially a substitute as a right defender. With the continuation of the season, coach Huub Stevens put him in defensive midfield and he acted very strongly in this new position. In the end, Schiemer was able to look forward to his second championship title after 2006.

On December 12, 2013 he played his fiftieth international club game at the Europa League match between FC Red Bull Salzburg and Esbjerg fB. Overall, the season was not satisfactory, as he was repeatedly affected by injuries that prevented him from playing in the first team. On December 12, 2014, he announced his early retirement.

In addition to his football career, Schiemer is completing a part-time master's degree in project and sports management at the SME Academy.

As a trainer and functionary

At the beginning of January 2016, Schiemer became Thomas Letsch's assistant coach at the Austrian second division club FC Liefering .

On February 13, 2017, Schiemer was appointed as the new sports director of SV Ried . On April 2, 2018, head coach Lassaad Chabbi was on leave and Schiemer was appointed interim as head coach. On June 7, 2018, Schiemer was confirmed in his position as manager of the Innviertler, despite the missed promotion of SV Ried. On November 14, 2018, Schiemer announced his resignation after the end of the 2018 fall season.

For the 2019/20 season he became Jesse Marsch's assistant coach at FC Red Bull Salzburg .
