Franz Schmalzl

Franz Schmalzl (born March 4, 1927 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper who played three seasons in the Oberliga Süd for Bayern Munich .

Career

At the age of 21, Schmalzl belonged to FC Bayern Munich, for whom he played in the Oberliga Süd, the highest German division at the time, in the 1948/49 season , on September 12, 1948 (1st matchday) in a 1-1 home game against the 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 debut, played in all 30 league games and with the team in third place for participation in the second qualifying round to the final round of the championship in 1948/49 qualified.

Against FC St. Pauli , the second in the Oberliga Nord , an elimination game was necessary in the second qualifying round , which ended with him in the goal on June 5, 1949 in the Eilenriedestadion in Hanover 1: 1 and made a replay necessary. Just one day later, he and the team lost 2-0 at the same location and missed the finals.
