The Franz Schneider Verlag was a German publisher with a focus on printing and distribution of children's books . In 2003 the publishing house was divided into the Egmont publishing companies and thus dissolved. The brand name Schneiderbuch has been retained to this day . In 2020, Schneiderbuch was sold to the British group HarperCollins .

history

On April 1, 1913, the publishing house was founded by Franz Schneider (1875–1946) in Berlin . After the founder's death in 1946, his wife Luise Schneider ran the family business together with their son Franz-Joachim Schneider , who then managed the company as sole owner from 1964 to 1985. In 1953 the company headquarters was relocated to Munich . In 1985 Schneider sold the publishing house and brand to the Danish Egmont group . In 2003 Egmont Verlagsgesellschaft Cologne took over distribution and sales and renamed the brand the Schneiderbuch . Since then, the main locations of business activity have been Berlin, Cologne and Munich.

In 2020, Schneiderbuch was sold to the British group HarperCollins .

Well-known book series include the Hanni-und-Nanni series for girls and the Burg-Schreckenstein series for boys. Circulations of over 100,000 received the Golden Tailor's Book award .

The slogan Children Love Tailoring Books was printed on the bottom of the back of the book. In addition, an age recommendation (from-to) was often given.

Only the “ S ” logo was present at the bottom of the spine . Books for boys were often marked “ J ” at the top ; also the name of the author was written in light blue letters. For books for girls, the author's name was in red / purple letters, and with the designation " M " on the upper spine of the book. Books for boys and girls were initially also marked in red, later in yellow.

Since 2003, the target group has been focused on children and young people up to the age of twelve. Comics, fairy tales and adventure novels are published as a focus, with accompanying films, story books or themed worlds also playing an important role.

However, classic tailor's book series such as Schreckenstein Castle are also being reissued again and again.

Other book series include Bibi Blocksberg , Kommissar Kugelblitz and A Case for You and the Tiger Team . Cinema films were also made for some children's books, for which Schneiderbuch brought out accompanying films.

Comic novels at Schneiderbuch include Dork Diaries , Olivia Vieweg's Am I stupid or what ?! as well as books from the Tom Gates , Oscar , Luisa and Ein Fall für Kitti Krimi series .
