Franzl Lang , real name Franz Lang , (born December 28, 1930 in Obersendling , Munich , † December 6, 2015 in Munich) was a German singer, yodeler , guitarist and accordion player .

Life

Franz Lang grew up in Munich and learned to be a toolmaker after finishing school . As a 9-year-old he was given an accordion, which later became one of his trademarks. The popular actor Ludwig Schmid-Wildy brought him to Münchner Platzl , where he had his first stage experience. This was followed by test recordings and soon the first record deal came. His recording of the Kuckucksjodler made him famous. Numerous appearances on radio and television followed, in which he sang and, above all, yodeled.

Directed by Kurt Hoffmann , he appeared with a title in the film Salzburg Stories in 1956; in 1961 he took on a supporting role in the homeland film Der Orgelbauer von St. Marien , in which he sang the king yodel among other things . In the following year he was seen with the laughing yodel at the side of Kurt Großkurth in the hit film Tanze mit mir in den Morgen and appeared with Franz a Gstanzl in Drei Liebesbriefe aus Tirol .

In 1968 he had his greatest success with the Kufstein song . The popular folk song about the small Tyrolean town of Kufstein , which has won multiple awards , has become an evergreen in folk music. The song was also recorded by numerous other artists, such as Heino , Maria and Margot Hellwig and Marianne and Michael .

In the 1970s he was a permanent guest on the Lustige Musikanten on ZDF and on other popular programs. He has also been heard and seen on numerous concert tours. With over 500 songs sung, more than 10 million records sold, 20 gold records and one platinum record, he is one of the most successful singers in the folk music industry.

Since 1954 he was married to his wife Johanna. The couple had a son and a daughter. Franzl Lang died on December 6, 2015 at the age of 84 in a Munich hospital of multiple organ failure. He most recently suffered from diabetes and cataracts . Lang's body was cremated and his urn was buried in the Munich forest cemetery.
