Fred M. MacLean

Fred Merrill MacLean (born July 9, 1898 in North Dakota , † June 3, 1976 in Los Angeles ) was an American production designer .

Life

Fred M. MacLean, son of a Canadian and an American , worked as a production designer in Hollywood from 1933 , where he was contracted to Warner Brothers . Over the course of his career, he has worked with directors such as Howard Hawks , William Wyler , Raoul Walsh , John Huston , George Cukor and George Stevens . In 1942 he was nominated for the first time in the category Best Production Design for the Howard Hawks film Sergeant York . Other nominations he received for The Adventures of Mark Twain ( The Adventures of Mark Twain , 19441) and George Stevens' The Greatest Story Ever Told ( The Greatest Story Ever Told , 1965). From 1954 he was also used several times on US television. He died in Los Angeles in 1976 at the age of 77 .
