Freedom caucus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Freedom Caucus , also House Freedom Caucus , is an association of Conservative MPs from the Republican Party within the Republican parliamentary group in the United States House of Representatives . This group is not to be confused with the Democratic Freedom Caucus , a group within the Democratic Party .

The Freedom Caucus was founded in 2015 with the self-image of forming a smaller, closer, more flexible and more capable group within the Conservative Republican MPs. The members of the Freedom Caucus represent a particularly conservative group within the Republican faction. The group is led by Mark Meadows ; other well-known members are Jim Jordan , Raúl Labrador , Mo Brooks , Mark Sanford and Justin Amash . The House Freedom Caucus does not disclose its members, which also makes it difficult to vote within the Republican faction in Congress. For 2017, a strength of at least 30 congressmen is assumed. There are already other politically different groups in the Congress faction of the Republicans, from the moderate to the ultra-conservative spectrum, which makes it considerably more difficult for the faction and its spokesman to formulate and implement a consistent policy.

In March 2017, the Freedom Caucus refused to approve the proposal of the American Health Care Act of 2017 (" Trumpcare ") by Republican President Donald Trump because the group did not consider Trump 's proposal to be radical enough with the regulation of the previous government ( Affordable Care Act = "Obamacare") broke. The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Paul Ryan and the President, both members of the Republican Party, withdrew the vote completely.
