The Waldorf School Leipzig is a substitute private school in Leipzig , school boards , the Association of Waldorf school community Leipzig e. V. The school works on the basis of the Waldorf education established by Rudolf Steiner .

history

Emerging from the forums for free education and with the participation of the Christian community in Leipzig , the inauguration of the first Waldorf School in Leipzig was celebrated on August 30, 1990 in the senior citizens' home “Clara Zetkin” in Brambacher Straße 89 in Leipzig's Grünau district , after the day before from Ministry of Education and Youth had given permission for the school to run. In September 1990, 6 teachers began teaching around 120 students in grades 1 to 4 at the newly founded Free Waldorf School in Leipzig. The school was initially located in Grünau. In 1990 she used the rooms of a former kindergarten at Potzschkaustraße 50. In 1993 she moved into her own building at Breisgaustraße 83, this building, which previously also housed a children's facility, has since been demolished. Due to the increasing lack of space, an architectural competition for a new school building was announced in 1994. Although a plot of land was already available, this plan had to be abandoned for cost reasons.

In August 2000 the school moved into its current building at Mockauer Berthastraße 15. For the school building of the former 11th school, which opened in 1957 as a primary school (temporarily Bruno-Schönlank - POS ), the sponsoring association has had a heritable building right contract since 2003 .

The first students with main or secondary school certificate in 1998 left the school, the High School was taken the first time 1,999th In the 2009/2010 school year there were a total of 289 pupils at the Free Waldorf School in Leipzig (129 primary school pupils and 160 pupils from secondary level I and II ).

Structure and subjects

The Waldorf school cannot be assigned to any of the classic types of school. It combines grades 1 to 13 in an integrated school form and, in addition to the three general school-leaving qualifications (secondary school qualification in class 11, secondary school qualification in class 12, Abitur in class 13), also offers the Waldorf school qualification in class 12.

In the single school, the lessons are divided into a main lesson - which is taken over by a class teacher up to grade 8 - with a teaching block of 2 hours a day in which the main subjects (German, mathematics, natural sciences, history, geography) alternate with 3 up to 4 weeks in a row (so-called epoch lessons ). The main lessons are followed by specialist lessons, in which the classes are usually divided into two groups. In the subject lessons, the subjects English, Russian, music, sport, eurythmy , religion, handicraft, artisanal and artistic lessons are taught by specialist teachers.

School-age children with minor maturity delays can be accustomed to school learning in a small group in a so-called entry class. After this transition year, they will start school regularly in class 1. However, this does not represent a repetition of a class in the narrower sense, because repetitions of classes ( “staying seated” ) do not exist at the Waldorf School.

At the end of the school year, every student receives a detailed report in text form, in which learning progress and individual development status are described. A censor certificate students receive until the end of the first half of the 11th grade. At the end of the school year there is still a verbal assessment in addition to the grades.

The pupils in grades 1 to 4 can visit the after- school care center. The after-school care center of the Waldorf School is intended to create fields of activity for the pupils in the domestic-social and in the creative and creative areas.

kindergarten

A Waldorf kindergarten with two mixed-age groups with children from 3 to 6 years and a toddler group was also part of the school. He originally used rooms in the school building. With the move to a new kindergarten building on the school premises, the kindergarten became independent on August 1, 2011. Since then, the sponsoring association has been the Waldorf School Kindergarten Leipzig e. V.

For the new Waldorf school kindergarten , which is located right next to the school building at Friedrichshafner Straße 25, the Markurt Architekturkontor from Leipzig and the architectural office Denker & Zimmer from Berlin designed a straw bale construction in which the compartments of a wooden frame were filled with straw bales . Around 12,000 hand-made adobe bricks are built into the interior walls . The foundation stone for the kindergarten was laid on August 28, 2010. After two months, the topping-out ceremony was held on October 26, 2010.
