Freedom is the second short film by screenwriter , producer and director George Lucas and was produced during his student days at the University of Southern California in 1965 . In Freiheit , Lucas dramatizes the individual's struggle for freedom and thus points to the division of Germany into East and West Germany.
The film has a running time of three minutes, has two actors and was shot against the backdrop of a simple meadow. With the monochrome blue-tone images, Lucas tries to convey the atmosphere of a nightmare-like landscape to the viewer.
action
Freedom begins with the depiction of a watchtower, as it was set up at regular intervals on the Berlin Wall . A young man with white socks, short sleeves and a tie tries to escape into a forest, terrified of invisible pursuers.
The persistent mood of chirping birds is gradually drowned out by the noise of a machine gun until the young man is shot by it. An off-camera dialog now follows :
- “It's definitely worth dying for freedom. She is the only thing worth dying for. "
- “Of course it's worth dying for freedom. Because without freedom we are dead. "
