Friedel is a former brewer and chocolate manufacturer with headquarters at Kegelenstrasse 5 in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt until 1953 and then in Rommelshausen .

shower

The history of effervescent powder began in the company in 1925 . The invention of the Stuttgart businessman Theodor Beltle gave birth to a simple lemonade base which, when mixed with water, resulted in a carbonated soft drink. Together with the company founder Robert Friedel, he founded the Frigeo company as a follow-up company to the Robert Friedel GmbH founded by Robert Friedel . Ahoj is still firmly associated with this brand today .

The company began trading with drinking tablets (effervescent powder and effervescent compacts with the flavors lemon and orange) as an alternative to lemonades . The shower quickly established itself and became a popular drink in the early 1930s. In the next step, the powder form of the effervescent replaced the tablet. The beverage preparation process has thus been significantly shortened and made more attractive. Woodruff and raspberry completed the flavor portfolio. In the years that followed, demand grew steadily, and brews were offered at kiosks, in front of schools and at the bakery.

Robert Friedel died in 1937. Theodor Beltle led the company through the first years of the war alone. Production later came to a standstill.

After the Second World War , production started very slowly. In 1948 it already reached the productivity levels of the pre-war period. In 1953 the crisis was over and the brewery production was relocated from Stuttgart to larger halls in Remshalden- Geradstetten . The company was still family-owned. Frigeo landed a hit in the 1970s with the fizzy lolly . In 1955 the product range was expanded to include sweets and soda sticks, and soda puffed rice was also added.

In 2001 the Frigeo sales company was the market leader for shower products. In 2002 Frigeo was taken over by the confectionery company Katjes from Emmerich am Rhein .

chocolate

Until the renovation and rededication of the building at the beginning of the 2010s, the lettering “ Chocolate specialties” was emblazoned on the main building in Kegelenstrasse . Chocolate Easter bunnies and Santa Clauses were part of the production inventory at two of the three company locations in Rommelshausen (Kernen), Rems-Murr-Kreis and in Wernigerode (Saxony-Anhalt) until 2002. Today, chocolate from the Friedel under Rübezahl chocolate shop in Dettingen under Teck expelled.

Chocolate was also produced in Stuttgart by the companies Waldbaur , Haller , Moser-Roth , Schoko-Buck , Eszet and Ritter Sport .

Trivia

In 1959 the novel Die Blechtrommel by Günter Grass was published . An erotic scene demands the main character Oskar Matzerath to lick fizzy powder mixed with saliva from the belly button of his lover Maria Truczinski.
