Friedemann Beyer (born January 31, 1955 in Düsseldorf ) is a German film historian and publicist .

Life

Friedemann Beyer spent his school days in Wuppertal , Munich and Los Angeles . From 1977 to 1983 he studied German , history and sociology in Munich. In addition, he realized his own filmic works. Between 1984 and 1988 he was a freelance journalist with a focus on film and literary criticism. From 1989 to 1991 he worked as an editor for Bavarian TV and then until 1998 for RTL-Television in Cologne. There he initially worked in the film editing department and later became chief editor for self-produced TV films and multi-part series.

In 1999 he moved to Columbia-TriStar Pictures in Cologne , where he was head of the drama department and was responsible for the development of series and multi-part series. In the summer of 2001 he became the managing director of the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation in Wiesbaden, which he headed until August 2007, most recently as chairman of the board. Since 2008 he has been working as a freelance author and publicist, u. a. for numerous film and contemporary history radio features.

In addition, he curates a. a. for the Berlin Babylon Film Festival and retrospectives such as "Berlin.Babylon.Das StummfilmOrgelfestival", "Silent Film at Midnight", "Be Billy Wilder", Hitchcock, "Chaplin Complete", Bud Spencer, Lars von Trier, "Nouvelle Vague - Jean-Pierre Léaud ”,“ Clockwork Kubrick ”,“ Vive la France! 50 French silent film classics ”,“ 100 years of Ufa in 100 Ufa films ”and the UFA film nights in Berlin and Brussels.

Since 2012 he has headed the “TELEVISIONS - TV with Format” section at the Hamburg Film Festival.
