Riem cemetery
The Riem cemetery is located in the east of Munich in the Riem district of the same name . The old part is located east of the street "Am Mitterfeld". The new part is located to the west of the “Am Mitterfeld” street and is bordered by the Am Hüllgraben street to the north, by Leonhardiweg to the west and by Linnenbrüggerstraße to the south.
The extension of the Riemer Friedhof was built in 1999 and 2000. The extension area consists of four irregular rectangles, separated from one another by structural boundaries (walls, embankments), which have been raised in relation to the surroundings. The arrangement of the grave sites also differs from that of other cemeteries: The graves were placed above the paths - slightly raised. They also tower over the lawns that surround the grave fields. Regional tree species such as wild apples or birch were selected for the planting . The funeral hall at the south end of the new cemetery is directly opposite the main entrance of the old cemetery, it was built from concrete, rubble and wood according to the plans of the architects Andreas Meck and Stephan Köppel . She was awarded the BDA Bavaria Prize in 2001 .
