Friedrich von Waldeck-Pyrmont

Friedrich Adolf Hermann (born January 20, 1865 in Arolsen ; † May 26, 1946 there ) was the last ruler of the Principality of Waldeck- Pyrmont from 1893 to 1918 .

Life

Friedrich was the son of Prince Georg Viktor (1831-1893) and Helene von Nassau-Weilburg . So he belonged to the Waldeck family .

He studied law in Göttingen and Leipzig and became a member of the Corps Bremensia in 1884 . As a general of the cavalry , he took part in the First World War. In 1918 he was deposed as a result of the November Revolution . The Social Democratic Lord Mayor Philipp Scheidemann of Kassel jokingly called him "Friedrich the Defiant" because of his resistance.

By comparison with the Landtag of the Free State of Waldeck, Friedrich and his descendants received the usufruct of the Arolser Castle and ownership of the Arolsen Forest and the Hünighausen domain in 1920; the latter was then exchanged for the Eilhausen domain . He died here on May 26, 1946.
