Friedrich Dams ( January 10, 1799 in Berlin - February 4, 1877 ibid) was a German theater actor and opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

He was already a grown man when his voice was noticed. Now he took singing lessons from the tenor Keil and made his debut in Sondershausen. In 1827 he came to Augsburg as a performance tenor, in 1828 to Düsseldorf, 1829 to Aachen and in 1831 he was engaged in Prague. On November 1, 1831 he joined the association of the Kassel court theater, where he worked until October 1, 1835, then followed a call to Leipzig, went from there to Breslau and Vienna and returned to Kassel on January 1, 1837, where he was artistically active until 1843. He then appeared only as a guest on several first stages and in 1850 withdrew entirely from the theater. He set up a restoration in his hometown, but gave it up again after a while. He died on February 4, 1877 in Berlin, one of the most popular playing tenors of his time.
