Friedrich Ernst Todtenhaupt (born March 19, 1873 in Seligenfeld near Königsberg , † February 11, 1919 in Radebeul ) was a German chemist .

Todtenhaupt did an apprenticeship as a pharmacist and from 1896 studied pharmacy in Königsberg with the state pharmaceutical examination in 1898. After that he was a pharmacist , studied chemistry in Königsberg from 1901 with a doctorate in 1903.

Then he went to Dessau to pursue a project to produce textile fibers for artificial silk from casein . He received a patent for this in 1904 and founded the German artificial silk factory in Harburg with the Galalith company, which had success with a plastic made from casein. The attempts to produce rayon and bristles failed and in 1909 the company was dissolved. In 1924, Ferretti started a new attempt in Italy with fibers made from casein (Lanital), but in the end it failed due to the use of milk as a raw material, which is primarily food.

After the failure of his company, Todtenhaupt went to Chemischen Fabrik v. Heyden in Radebeul, who processed cellulose acetate into textile fibers. In 1915 he lived in the now listed rental villa at Einsteinstrasse 9.
