Friedrich Gustav Kögel
Friedrich Gustav Kögel (born June 4, 1860 in Pressel , † December 7, 1947 in Chicago ) was the first globetrotter .
After finishing school he learned the trade of tailor and emigrated to America at an early age . In a major newspaper in San Francisco , a bet was made who can travel the world on foot. written out. Kögel and his friend Fred Thörner accepted this bet. Within 2 years from 1894 to 1896, the two hiked on a prescribed route around the world, making them the very first world wanderers. They made their living from newspaper reports, lectures and photographs. At that time, the performance received worldwide media coverage.
In June 1900, Kögel met the adventure writer Karl May in Beirut , who gave him a poem and later recorded his meeting with Kögel in his diary.
