Friedrich Naumann (born April 22, 1940 in Berthelsdorf ) is a German historian . From 1993 to 2005 he was professor of science , technology and university history at the Technical University of Chemnitz .

Life

After attending school and doing military service, Naumann first completed specialist training as a cement worker and shaft furnace burner. He completed his studies at the Bergakademie Freiberg in 1962 as a qualified mineralogist. He then worked as an assistant at the information processing chair there, until he was appointed director of the computer center at the Technical University of Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1974. In 1975 Naumann was introduced to the topic A contribution to the optimal design of data provision with special consideration of the use of terminals for Dr. phil. PhD . As the holder of an apprenticeship at the Center for the History of Technical Sciences at the Technical University of Dresden , Naumann dealt intensively with the history of computer science from 1979. In 1984 he submitted his dissertation B on the topic of the genesis of information processing as a technical science discipline , with which he received the title of Dr. sc. phil. attained. After the fall of the Wall in 1991, the Senate of TU Dresden gave him the title of Dr. phil. habil. awarded. He also subsequently wrote numerous magazine articles and books on the history of computer science.

From 1990 to 1992 Naumann was chairman of the Saxon State Association for Local History and Monument Preservation. 1992 he was appointed to the Presidium Working Group on the History of Computer Science of the Society for Computer Science . From 1993 until his retirement in 2005, Naumann was Professor of Science, Technology and University History at Chemnitz University of Technology. The professorship was not subsequently filled. He is also a member of the Historical Commission of the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig, the Association for Saxon State History , the Chemnitz History Association and the Georgius Agricola Research Center in Chemnitz.

Naumann also appears as an amateur jazz musician. In the 1970s he was the guitarist and bassist of the Freiberg Jazz Quintet and in 1972 was one of the founders of the Freiberg Jazz Days. From 1979 to 1990 he played guitar, tenor banjo and double bass in the Roberts Jazz Society. He currently plays as a bassist for the Chemnitz Jazz Company.
