Friedrich Rau
Friedrich Rau (born March 1, 1916 in Stuttgart ; † December 24, 2001 in Gaienhofen -Hemmenhofen) was a German lawyer and politician ( SPD ).

Rau was born the son of the doctor Felix Rau. His second marriage was to the art historian Julia Rau-Countess von der Schulenburg .
Life and work
After graduating from high school in 1934 at the humanistic Karls-Gymnasium in Stuttgart, he began to study law at the universities in Lausanne , Tübingen and Freiburg im Breisgau , which he completed in 1938 with the first state examination and in 1941 with the second state examination. He then took part in the Second World War as a soldier in the Air Force , including as a transport plane in the Battle of Stalingrad .
In 1944 Rau deserted and fled to Switzerland . In Zurich he completed his legal dissertation on The Renvoi in light of recent Swiss and German literature , the later of the Faculty of Law of the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg has been recognized that it subsequently in March 1946 to Dr. jur. PhD.
Carlo Schmid appointed Rau in June 1946 as a university advisor in the Ministry of Culture of the State of Württemberg-Hohenzollern . He worked in Tübingen and was appointed to the government council in October 1946 . From 1952 to 1959 he was a curator at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . Together with the architect Ferdinand Kramer , he developed the overall plan for the reconstruction of the university. From 1960 to 1965 he was the Senate Director of the Senate Administration for Popular Education in Berlin . In this function he worked under the Education Senators Joachim Tiburtius (1960–63) and Carl-Heinz Evers (1963–65).
He also worked on the German Science Council , was a member of the ZDF television council from 1961 to 1965 and chairman of the Geschwister-Scholl-Stiftung in Ulm from 1964 to 1967 , which was responsible for the Ulm School of Design . Since 1965 he practiced as a lawyer.
In the 5th electoral term (1965-1969) Rau belonged to the Bundestag with a mandate from the SPD - Baden-Württemberg state list . He was a full member of the Budget Committee until April 1968 . He was also a deputy member of the Committee for Science, Cultural Policy and Journalism.
From 1982 to 1983, Rau was an SPD member of the council of the social-liberal coalition in the Gaienhofen municipal council.
