Frits Boterman

Frederik Willem "Frits" Boterman (born January 8, 1948 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch historian who is best known for his work on the history of Germany and German-Dutch relations .

Frits Boterman studied history at the University of Amsterdam in the 1960s , after which he worked as a history teacher.

In 1992 he was at the University of Amsterdam with a thesis on the German philosopher of history, cultural historian and political writer Oswald Spengler doctorate . From 1997 to 2003 he was associate professor for recent German history, especially German-Dutch relations, at the University of Groningen . In his inaugural speech in 1998 he spoke about Germany as a Dutch problem: the German-Dutch relationship between openness and individuality.

From 2003 he was at the University of Amsterdam Professor of Modern History of Germany after 1750. In 2013 he was retired .
