Fritz Tiefenthaler

Fritz Tiefenthaler (born September 2, 1929 in Matrei in Osttirol , Tyrol ; † March 11, 2010 in Vienna ) was an Austrian sculptor and medalist .

Life

Tiefenthaler was born in 1929 as the son of Martin Tiefenthaler. After four years of elementary school in Matrei and four years of high school in Lienz , he attended the master school for painters and sculptors in Graz from 1944 . In 1948 he enrolled in the Vienna Art Academy , where he studied with Fritz Wotruba and Clemens Holzmeister , among others .

In 1970 Fritz Tiefenthaler received a chair as full professor of fine arts at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (today University of Applied Arts Vienna ). Even after his retirement, Tiefenthaler still worked actively in his studio in Vienna and his home town of Matrei. Tiefenthaler was a member of the Vienna Art Club .

Tiefenthaler died on March 11, 2010 in the Liebhartstal sanatorium in Vienna, and on March 22, he was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery.
