Ankle band

Elements of half-timbered construction

An ankle band is - similar to a head band - an inclined connection that is used by the carpenter to stabilize a threshold and a stand . A headband sits at the top under a purlin, while the footband is at the bottom on a threshold. Foot straps are used less often than head straps.

If a triangular piece of wood is used instead of the tape, this is called an angle wood . Angled wooden feet are mostly used as decorative elements.
