Tanzmariechen
The Tanzmariechen is the former vivandières declining traditional figure in the carnival and was initially only in the Rhineland before. Funke (n) mariechen and regiment daughter are also used as synonymous terms (e.g. in the Prinzen-Garde or honor guard in the Cologne carnival ). The Tanzmariechen role was originally played exclusively by men. The carnivalists made concessions to the National Socialists and replaced them with women for fear of transvestism .
The typical clothing is often based on the outerwear on uniforms from the 18th century : tricorn , wig with plaited braids , boots, uniform with jacket and trousers. A short but wide, partly pleated skirt later replaced the pants. The legs are covered with thick glossy tights in a dark skin tone. Their panty section is not reinforced and a separate, white panty with lace or ruffles is worn over it. Also called lace or frilled panties for short. The former should not be confused with transparent underwear. With the most ingenious costumes , however, the skirt turns out to be a dress, which means that this skirt cannot slip. For the same purpose the panty is replaced by a leotard or additionally worn under it. There is also an optional petticoat in white.
These dancers practice in carnival or special guard dance clubs .
Tanzmariechen can be found today in almost every carnival, carnival and carnival club in Germany , Austria , Belgium and Holland . They appear individually, in pairs with dance officers or in groups in dance guards , often to march or polka music, but now also to more modern music based on traditional music.
In the formation, this is partly done with dance steps from the earlier girl dance, whereas elements from the floor exercise ( flickflack , splits ) are inserted in the solo dance . In the meantime, however, acrobatic elements have also become common among the “professionals” in the guard dance.
In carnival dance sport ( guard dance ), regional, state or German championships are held by the umbrella organizations Bund Deutscher Karneval (BDK), German Association for Guard and Show Dance (DVG) and Rhenish Carnival Corporations (RKK) of Tanzmariechen, Tanzpaare und Garden (and also show dances) in the age groups youth , juniors and active (formerly called "seniors").
