Géza M. Tóth

Géza M. Tóth (born June 16, 1970 in Veszprém ) is a Hungarian animator and lecturer in animation.

Life

Tóth studied pedagogy at the University of Art and Design in Budapest and graduated in 1993 as a teacher of visual communication. Tóth made his first animated films while still a student, including Fox-Trot (1990) and The Crucifixion (1991). From 1994 he worked as a teacher for visual communication and studied visual communication in the field of animation until 1996, also at the University of Art and Design. From 1995 to 2010 Tóth was employed at the Institute for Visual Communication at the university and led the animation course from 1998 to 2005.

Tóth founded the animation film studio KEDD in 2002, which, in addition to film work, is also dedicated to interdisciplinary projects such as opera adaptations. In 2005, Tóth's short animation film Maestro was released , which was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Animated Short Film in 2006.

Tóth completed his doctoral thesis in education in 2005, worked as a post-doc at the Royal College of Art in London from 2005 to 2006 and completed his habilitation in 2008 at the Moholy Nagy University of Applied Sciences in Budapest. Since 2010 he has been a lecturer at the Academy of Dramatic and Film Art (Színház- és Filmművészeti Egyetem) in Budapest.

In 2015 Tóth staged the Ring of the Nibelung at the Hungarian State Opera .
