The Götzenbach flows into the Rems in Lorch

The Götzenbach is a right tributary of the Rems in Lorch in the Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg . The Götzenbach is 4.9 km long and has a water catchment area of around 4.1 km². Its 1.1 km long upper course is called Kirchbach , its lower valley Götzental .

Naming

The Götzenbach got its name from a temple from Roman times, which probably stood on Venusberg on a hill in the east above the Lorch fort . At this point there is now a villa that belongs to the complex of Hermann E. Sieger's company . The Götzenbrunnen rises at the right foot of the slope of the brook, which is already called Götzenbach, in the Alfdorf district . The Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes runs approximately on the right watershed to the Aimersbach downstream , which crosses the valley at the former Götzenmühle. Its route shows landmarks. The name Kirchbach im Oberlauf indicates that the residents of Bruck and Pfahlbronn used to go to church through the valley to Lorch.

geography

course

The Götzenbach arises on the southern edge of the hamlet of Brech, which belongs to the Pfahlbronn district of Alfdorf in the Rems-Murr district in eastern Baden-Württemberg , and which has since grown together with Pfahlbronn. The unevenly narrow, west-east running plateau band on which both main towns stand, drops steeply next to the sand dump to the valley of the brook, which at its source Neubrunnen on a swampy meadow emerges as Kirchbach . This then flows with a steady gradient approximately south through the forest. After 1.1 km it changes to the Alfdorf district at a first larger right tributary the name Götzenbach , after about 1.5 km it takes the water of the Götzenbrünnel / Götzenbrunnen . Shortly thereafter, another right side valley runs towards it, at the tributary tributary it crosses into the area of the small town of Lorch in the Rems-Murr district.

After more than half of the run, the Schelmenklinge flows from the left ; From here on, a meadow ribbon often only 50 meters wide accompanies the stream. After the two ponds to the left of the bed at the former Götzenmühle, one slope is cleared for the first time. The Seitenbach from the Reiterklinge , which then falls from the left , with 0.9 km the longest of all, already flows through the loose settlement area of Lorch. In it it runs in sections, crossing under the former federal road 29 (today K 3313) and the Remstalbahn . From the Catholic Church of St. Konrad it flows through the town center of Lorch, crosses the Zollplatz and flows past the Schillerschule community center and the Remsgarten and at the renatured confluence from the right and north into the Rems .

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Götzenbach, about 4.1 km² in size, extends from Pfahlbronn over the Neubrunnen about 4.7 km south to the mouth. Across from it, it is nowhere even 1.5 km wide. In the west it borders along its entire length on that of the Aimersbach, which usually runs parallel to the Rems in a distance of less than a kilometer . The watershed runs from the mouth over the Lorcher Bühl northwards, roughly on the old Limes route through the Pfahlbronn forest to the center of Pfahlbronn. There it bends and only walks eastwards for a short time; At the opposite foot of the plateau, the Lein runs eastwards to the Kocher , which only reaches the Neckar well below the Rems . Then it turns south again and runs roughly on the route of the L 1154 to Bruck to the Lorch hamlet of Bruck and to a hilltop on the edge of the Staffelgehren forest . Beyond the ridge, the right-hand tributary chain from Brecherbach and Mühlbach runs to the next larger Rems tributary, Schweizererbach above. Finally, the catchment area of the small Ilgenbach pushes itself in front of them.

The greatest height in the catchment area is on its north side on the plateau around Pfahlbronn at over 497  m above sea level. NN .

Settlements in the catchment area include the Pfahlbronn residential area Gehäuhaus on the left Obertalhang, the Lorch hamlet of Bruck, which is also on the L 1154, and the residential area Hollenhof, which has almost grown together with Lorch.

Geology and landscape

The Kirchbach rises in the transition area between the Lower Jurassic plateau around Pfahlbronn and the Oberkeuper layers below . This upper course and the Götzenbach itself then dig into the Keup layers. On the left watershed, the Lower Jura lies as far as Bruck. The mouth in the broad Quaternary sediment band around the Rems is probably just above the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld formation ); This is because it only strikes a little downstream on the lower Rems valley slopes.

The valley of the Götzenbach is cut quite deep, with the western slope being steeper than the eastern one. Many small and tiny side streams and springs flow to the Götzenbach. The most famous of these is the Schelmenklinge brook, with further tributaries coming from the Roman well and the quarry. The stream crosses the layers of reed sandstone and colorful marls , so in some places small cascades form on the clay banks. In the area of the Rotebühlweg there was also a major landslide in the 1990s, where there are pebbles from the Hassberge formation .

The Götzenbach runs in the natural area of the Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land through the subunits of the Vorderer Welzheimer Wald (No. 107.32) and finally the Upper Remstal (No. 107.11). Arising roughly at the border between the Lower Jurassic and Keuper , it runs through the Keuper for most of its flow path, in which many small blades converge. The plateau above the Neubrunnen belongs to the Welzheim-Alfdorfer Platten natural area (No. 107.31), of which a narrow southern foothills to Bruck is the left valley divide.

There used to be three mills on Götzenbach. At the Götzenmühle , of which only a residential house and a few farm buildings have been partially preserved, there are still two of the former three mill ponds that are now leased to anglers. Below the Götzenmühle the brook enters populated area and its course is more and more determined by structural measures. There was another mill property to the right of the bank, about across from the Hollenhof, which was on a left slope platform. The last of the mills stood in the Ofengasse , from here the stream is canalised in parts .

Water protection area

At the middle course, starting in the valley a little before the inlet of the Schelmenklinge and stretching almost to the Götzenmühle, there is an approximately 108 hectare water protection area that extends on both sides of the brook to the right and left watershed.

Rogue Blade

The Götzental was developed as a local recreation area at the time when Lorch was a climatic health resort. The well-developed forest trails rise slowly, making the valley a popular destination for walks. Römerbrunnen and Schelmenklinge are easily accessible destinations that are also looked after accordingly. Every summer, water features and miniatures of buildings are set up in the Schelmenklinge. The old connection path to Bruck leads through a steep cliff to the height of the Swabian-Franconian Forest . A “waterfall” is fed by the overflow of a water reservoir. The small brook falls over a high step of the reed sandstone ( Stuttgart formation ) into the depths. Crashed rocks have formed a small grotto that is said to have served as a hiding place at the time of the Napoleonic Wars , similar to the grotto in the Annaklinge , which is located a few kilometers away near Bruck.

The name of the rogue blade indicates that the place was used long before for the disposal of slaughterhouse waste and dead animals, so-called rogues .

fauna and Flora

Some of the plants belonging to the Turkic League , which are repeatedly badly damaged, also come from the time of local recreation . Otherwise the valley is rich in different plants and animals. There are several types of orchids ( two-leaf orchids and orchids ), but their populations are dwindling due to the acidification of the meadows. Sedges and rushes grow in the ponds and artificially created pools for amphibians , and water hose and frog bites have also been spotted. In addition, autumn crops bloom on the drier slopes in autumn and common heather and gorse flourish in the places where the reed sandstone is exposed . Up until the last decade, the forests were mainly characterized by spruce and fir trees; in recent years efforts have been made to turn the stands with colored deciduous trees . Since the recreational effect was important, unusual forest trees were also planted, such as chestnuts and thuja . Above the valley, on the Alte Brucker Steige , some sequoias were planted from royal Württemberg seeds, seven of which have survived. The fauna is also quite diverse. In the creek there are cuttlefish , caddis flies , stone flies and other aquatic insects. The brown trout feeds on them . The populations have dwindled very much, as has the occurrence of the noble crayfish . The last time he was sighted was in the 1990s. There are carp , pike , rudd and others used in the fish ponds . Among the mollusks, river cap snails , pond clams and pea clams are particularly noteworthy. Dipper and kingfisher are regular guests, while gray herons also nest in the surrounding woodland. Mammals are represented by bank mice , wood mice , shrews , moles , dormice , squirrels , martens , foxes , badgers , rabbits , deer and various bat species .
