The GL Kayser Spedition was in 1787 by Georg Ludwig Kayser founded as banking, trading and forwarding business and the oldest was company in Mainz and by Merck the oldest company in Germany. Until 2007 it was owned by the family for eight generations . With over 900 employees, it was one of the larger companies in the city of Mainz.

history

Until 1930, transports on the Rhine formed the basis of the company. From then on, the construction of truck transports began. In 1960 international freight forwarding began. In-house IT software was developed in 1973. In 1981 the development of warehouse logistics began. The move from the Mainz customs port to the new facility in Mainz-Hechtsheim took place in 1987, as did the cooperation with IDS and German Parcel . Another cooperation was started in 1992 with EAST as a general cargo system for Eastern Europe.

On October 31, 2007, the Swiss logistics group Kuehne + Nagel , which moved its Rhine-Main location to Mainz at the beginning of 2007, took over the company GL Kayser. With effect from July 1, 2010, GL Kayser Spediteur since 1787 GmbH & Co. KG operates under the name Kühne + Nagel (AG & Co.) KG, Mainz branch.
