Gabriella Papadakis (born May 10, 1995 in Clermont-Ferrand , Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes ) is a French figure skater who starts in ice dancing .

Career

Her ice dance partner is Guillaume Cizeron . Together they became French runners- up in 2014 and qualified for the first time for the European and World Championships , which they finished in 15th and 13th place respectively.

In 2015, Papadakis / Cizeron became French champions for the first time . At the European Championships in Stockholm they surprisingly won the title. In doing so, they distanced the reigning European champions Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte by 8.45 points. At the World Championships in Shanghai , too , the French managed the feat of becoming world champions when they participated for the second time. They relegated the Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates to their places, although they were still in fourth place after the short dance. Papadakis / Cizeron were the youngest world champions in ice dancing in 49 years.

In August 2015, Gabriella Papadakis suffered a severe concussion in a training accident that left her with persistent problems walking and speaking. The ice dancing couple had to cancel their participation in the Grand Prix season. At the French championships , the two appeared again for the first time and defended their title. They did the same at the European Championships in Bratislava and the World Championships in Boston . In their world championship freestyle, the French broke Meryl Davis and Charlie White's point record and improved it to 118.17 points.

In the 2017/2018 season they were the first dance couple to break the 200-point barrier in their three Grand Prix competitions.
