Gai Ilyich Severin ( Russian Гай Ильич Северин ; English transcription: Guy Ilyich Severin ; born July 24, 1926 in Chudovo , †  February 7, 2008 in Moscow ) was a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Director General of NPP Zvezda .

Life

Sewerin studied at the University of Aerospace in Moscow. As early as 1947 he was working and researching at the Mikhail Gromov University of Flight Research . He was largely responsible for the development of spacesuits and rescue systems, especially for the Vostok class.

Since 1964 Sewerin was chief designer, later also general director of NPP Zvezda in Tomilino . He remained in this position until post-Soviet times. He and his team successfully continued their work for the Vozhod and Soyuz ships.

Sewerin also taught as a professor, was the author of several specialist publications on space suits and was a member of the International Academy of Astronautics .

He was also a passionate skier and was twice able to become champion of the USSR in alpine skiing . A Russian ski club is named after Sewerin. In a skiing accident, he broke both legs, as a result of which he died. Sewerin left a widow and two children.
