Galindo I. Aznarez

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Galindo I. Aznárez († after 867) was a Count of Aragón in the middle of the 9th century from the House of Galíndez . He was a son of Count Aznar I. Galíndez .

When and under what circumstances Galindo acquired the county of Aragón is unclear. His father was once evicted by his brother-in-law, García Galíndez “the evil one” , and his brother Centulio was murdered. Possibly he was able to regain power in Aragón with the support of the kings of Pamplona . Galindo (Galindo gratia Dei comes) appears in three documents of King García Jiménez dated to the years 858 and 860 as the first-mentioned witness, each of which documents donations to the Abbey of San Martín de Cillas. This king was probably identical with the father of the same name of the wife of his grandson Galindo II . Furthermore, his son Aznar II was married to a daughter of King García Íñiguez . It is likely that Galindo conducted a political interplay between these two kings, who apparently competed for power in Pamplona in order to win their support.

Furthermore, Galindo (Galindo Asinarii comes) made two donations to the Abbey of San Pedro de Siresa, of which the later one dates to the year 867 and at the same time marks his last mention. This document names the kings " Karlo rege in Franza , Aldefoso filio Ardonis in Gallia Comata , Garsia Enneconis in Pampilona " as the current rulers . At the same time, this represents the final consideration of a Frankish king in the documents of the Aragonese counts.
