Gammascope

The gammascope (other designation: atomic eye ) is a device for determining radioactivity in the area and is equipped with a fluorescent screen that is sensitive to gamma rays . It was shown at the air protection equipment exhibition in Bad Godesberg in 1954 and cost 20 German marks at the time  .

The device came in 1955 a. a. Used in courses in the state air defense school in the former Douaumont barracks in Hamburg-Wandsbek . In these courses, volunteers were instructed about the possibilities of self-protection for the population, including in the event of atomic bomb attacks. These volunteers were instructed in the use of devices such as the atomic eye and the radiation detector and were later to act as teachers in educating the population.
