Garry Lawrence John O'Connor (born May 7, 1983 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish football player who has been under contract with Tom Tomsk in Russia since July 2012 . He is part of the extended squad of the Scottish national football team .

Career

In his youth, O'Connor played at Salvesen Boys Club and Hibernian Edinburgh , where he signed a professional contract in 1999. In April 2001 he made his professional debut for the first team under coach Alex McLeish in the league game against Dundee United , but what was his only game that year. Previously, he was briefly loaned to FC Peterhead in 2000 . Under Franck Sauzée , O'Connor played significantly more often and scored his first goal for Hibernian in February 2002. In 2005 he had an excellent season with Derek Riordan at Hibernian and qualified for the UEFA Cup that year .

In 2006 he moved to Lokomotiv Moscow for a transfer fee of € 2,400,000 . He played 33 games and scored seven goals. In 2007, O'Connor was finally signed by Birmingham City . O'Connor rose this year with his club in the 2nd division. In 2009, he was found cocaine in a doping test and was banned for two months.

As of January 1, 2011, O'Connor moved on a permanent contract basis to Barnsley FC , having previously only been on loan. After the Football League Championship 2010/11 he returned to Scotland and moved to Hibernian Edinburgh . In Edinburgh, where O'Connor already played in his youth, he signed a contract that ran until the end of the 2011/12 season. After the contract expired, he moved to Tom Tomsk in the Russian 1st Division .

National team

At the end of the 2001/02 season, O'Connor was in excellent shape, which made the then Scottish national coach Berti Vogts aware of him. In May 2002 he played his first international match against South Korea . In August 2005, O'Connor scored his first international goal for Scotland in a 2-2 draw against Austria .
