Gaspard Ulliel was born near Paris as the son of two stylists. Ulliel, who was attacked by a Doberman Pinscher at the age of six and has since been marked by a prominent scar under his left cheekbone, dreamed of directing a film from an early age.

At the age of eleven Ulliel began auditioning for television roles and was accepted after two months for his first small role in the television film Bonnes vacances . Ulliel died on January 19, 2022 as a result of a skiing accident . After colliding with another skier on a slope at the La Rosière ski station , he suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and was first transported by helicopter to the CHU de Grenoble hospital .
