Geert Adriaans Boomgaard

Geert Adriaans Boomgaard (born September 21, 1788 in Groningen , Netherlands ; † February 3, 1899 ibid) is recognized by most researchers as the first person to have exceeded the age limit of 110 years .

Life

Little is known about Boomgaard's life. He married Stijntje Bus on March 4, 1818 and after her death on March 17, 1831, Grietje Abels Jonker. His father was a ship's captain, and officials say Boomgaard did the same. Other sources claim that he was a soldier in the Napoleonic army. Boomgaard was awarded the Helen Medal .

Boomgaard lived 110 years and 135 days. He held the world age record until September 30, 1902, when the British Margaret Ann Neve exceeded his lifetime. According to the current state of research, he was not replaced as a male record holder until October 28, 1966 by the British John Mosely Turner.

He had eight children with his first wife, Stijntje Bus:

He had four children with his second wife Grietje Abels Jonker:

  • 3. Jacob Boomgaard (May 7, 1834 - February 22, 1879)
