Geier Sturzflug is a German band originally from Bochum , which celebrated its greatest successes as part of the Neue Deutsche Welle .
history
The band was founded in 1979 by Friedel Geratsch .
In 1982, the group with Gross National Product (new edition, originally published in 1977 by Friedel Geratsch and Reinhard Baierle as Duo Dicke Lippe ) released their biggest hit, which made it to number 1 in the singles sales charts in Germany , Austria and Switzerland . In the same year the song was covered in France by Nanard as PNB (produit national brut). Other well-known titles are Visit Europe (1983), Pure Lust am Leben (1984) and Loneliness (1984). In 1986 the band broke up.
In 1996 Friedel Geratsch and Carlo von Steinfurt started a new beginning. Since then they toured the German-speaking area with old and new songs.
Geratsch retired in 2011 and was replaced by Rainer Hundsdoerfer.
A cover version of the song Pure Lust am Leben - under the changed title Die Lust am Überleben - reached number 17 in the German charts in 2004, sung by participants in the TV show Ich bin ein Star - Get me out of here! .
