Gene Havlick

Eugene Charles Havlick (born March 16, 1894 in Enid , Oklahoma , † May 11, 1959 in Hollywood , Los Angeles ) was an American film editor .

Life

Gene Havlick began his career as an editor in 1928. Initially at Universal Studios , he moved to Columbia Pictures in 1929 , where he was under contract until 1955. During the 1930s he worked with director Frank Capra particularly often . For his film In the Fetters of Shangri-La Havlick won the Oscar in the category Best Editing in 1938 together with Gene Milford . 1939 and 1940 Havlick received for Capra movies survivor and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington two more Oscar nominations. At Columbia, Havlick was responsible for large-scale productions as well as numerous B-films , such as the popular Blondie series, which are based on the comic strip of the same name by Chic Young .
