Georg Brunold

Georg Brunold (born January 15, 1953 in Arosa ) is a Swiss journalist and writer .

Life

Georg Brunold studied philosophy , sociology and psychology at the University of Zurich from 1973 to 1979 ; In 1982 he received his doctorate in philosophy with a thesis on the theory of science . He then worked as a freelance journalist in Cairo and in Tangier , Morocco . From 1987 he was part of the international editorial team of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , and from 1991 to 1995 he was the correspondent of the same newspaper in Nairobi ( Kenya ). He then worked until 2003 as deputy editor-in-chief of the Swiss cultural magazine " du ". After a further nine years of freelance work based in Nairobi, Brunold has been living in Arosa again since 2013, with his Kenyan wife Ann Muia and their two children Stacy and Christian.

Georg Brunold is the author of reports and essays as well as the author, editor and translator of books on Africa , the Arab world and the history of journalism . In recent years he has increasingly turned to philosophical topics.

Georg Brunold is a member of the German-speaking Swiss PEN Center and the association « Imprint - Die Schweizer Journalistinnen ». In 2003 he received a work grant from the Pro Helvetia Foundation .
