Georg Glasl

Georg Glasl (* 1957) is a German musician and lecturer for zither at the University of Music and Theater in Munich .

Life

He studied at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. The professional world first became aware of him because of his interpretations of early music. In 1988 this earned him a music grant from the city of Munich.

Without neglecting the old masters, he turned his focus increasingly to contemporary music over the years. Numerous composers wrote for him and his instrument: they include Violeta Dinescu , Georg Friedrich Haas , Wilfried Hiller , Peter Kiesewetter , Bernhard Lang , Annette Schlünz , Dieter Schnebel , Christian Wolff and Walter Zimmermann .

He performed at numerous festivals. He was also a guest musician at the traditional New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic . Glasl played on concert tours through Europe, Japan, USA, Africa and Central Asia. He founded the Munich Zither Festival , which has taken place every two years under his artistic direction since 1995 . In 1996 he founded the concert series “Landscapes”, in which authentic traditional folk music is on an equal footing with new music . In 2009 he received the Music Prize of the City of Munich .
