Georg Joseph Sidler (astronomer)
Georg Joseph Sidler (born August 31, 1831 in Zug , † November 9, 1907 in Bern ) was a Swiss astronomer and mathematician .
Sidler studied mathematics and astronomy and received his doctorate in 1854 at the University of Zurich to Dr. phil. where he became a private lecturer ; after studying in Berlin, he became a private lecturer at the ETH Zurich in 1855 .
From 1856 to 1880 he taught mathematics at the Cantonal School in Bern ; In 1857 he became a private lecturer at the University of Bern , where he worked at the observatory . In 1866 he became an honorary professor there and from 1880 to 1898 was associate professor of mathematics and astronomy.
Sidler wrote papers on perturbation theory and spherical functions .
His estate with mathematical manuscripts is in the Burger Library in Bern .
