Georg von Gizycki

Georg von Gizycki (born April 14, 1851 in Glogau ( province of Silesia ), † March 3, 1895 in Berlin ) was a German philosopher .

Life

Gizycki received his doctorate on May 29, 1875 under Eduard Zeller at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Berlin with an attempt on the philosophical consequences of the Goethe-Lamarck-Darwin theory of evolution and completed his habilitation with a thesis on Shaftesbury’s philosophy . In 1878 he became a private lecturer and in 1883 an associate professor of philosophy in Berlin. Gizycki was a representative of the ethical movement in Germany; He helped found the German Society for Ethical Culture and edited the journal Ethical Culture . In addition, he served both as a writer and on the editorial board of the International Journal of Ethics .

Gizycki, sitting in a wheelchair , married Lily von Kretschmann (1865–1916) in 1893 , who after his death married Heinrich Braun , who later became a member of the Reichstag .
