George Bonello Dupuis

George Bonello Dupuis (Du Puis) ( 1927 - February 18, 2010 ) was a Maltese politician .

biography

Bonello Dupuis began his political career in 1966 as a member of the Christian Workers Party, but later switched to the Nationalist Party (PN), whose treasurer he was for many years.

For PN he was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1971 and was re-elected in the subsequent parliamentary elections in 1976, 1981, 1987 and 1992.

Following the 1987 elections, he was appointed Minister of Finance in the government of Prime Minister Edward Fenech Adami on May 12, 1987 . After a government reshuffle, he was Minister of Economic Affairs from February 27, 1992 to April 1, 1995 .

After leaving the House of Representatives in 1996, he was appointed High Commissioner in London .

Even after retiring from active politics, he offered himself as an advisor to the prime ministers of his party Fenech Adami and Lawrence Gonzi .

Bonello Dupuis was described in obituaries by his Nationalist Party as the architect of the modern Maltese economy, but was also honored in obituaries by the Malta Labor Party and Alternattiva Demokratika .
