George Brown (special effects artist)

George Brown (born May 30, 1910 , † November 15, 2005 ) was an American film technology pioneer and special effects artist who was awarded an Oscar for technical merits at the Academy Awards in 1952 and 1959 .

Life

George Brown, one of Warner Bros. cinematographic pioneers , was presented with a Technical Achievement Award at the 1952 Academy Awards, along with Ralph Ayres and Fred Ponedel , who also worked at Warner Bros. Studios, “for creating an air-powered water motor that also worked on Current and suction as well as whitewater during marine sequences in moving images was suitable ”(“ For an air-driven water motor to provide flow, wake and white water for marine sequences in motion pictures ”).

In 1956, Brown was responsible for special effects in the western Black Hawk by John Ford starring John Wayne .

Another award for the Technical Award took place in 1959, again together with Fred Ponedel, and with Conrad Boye , with whom Brown worked in the special effects department at Warner Bros., "for the design and manufacture of a new rapid-fire bullet pistol" ( "For the design and fabrication of a new rapid-fire marble gun").

For the musical - Fantasy film about the famous nanny Mary Poppins with Julie Andrews in the title role, contributed Brown in 1964 at the special effects. The following year, he decided his work in the field of special effects with an adventure - comedy by Blake Edwards and the duo Tony Curtis / Jack Lemmon .
