George James Parros (born December 29, 1979 in Washington , Pennsylvania ) is a former American ice hockey player and current official who played 493 games for the Los Angeles Kings , Anaheim Ducks , Florida between 1999 and 2014 Panthers and Canadiens de Montréal in the National Hockey League on the position of right winger . Parros, who embodied the player type of the Enforcer , won the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007 . Since September 2017 he has been employed as Senior Vice President of Player Safety at the National Hockey League.

Career

The 1.96 m tall striker first played from 1996 to 1998 in the US state of New Jersey for the high school team of the Delbarton Green Wave , in the high school league system of the United States. The 1998/99 season spent the right winger at Chicago Freeze in the North American Hockey League . Afterwards Parros went four seasons for the ice hockey team at Princeton University with league operations in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . During this time he was selected in the eighth round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft at position 222 by the Los Angeles Kings .

After graduating from college, Parros was inducted into the roster of the Manchester Monarchs , a farm team for the Kings in the American Hockey League . The right-shooter played for the Monarchs until the end of the 2004/05 season . After the good performance in the lockout - season he was in the following season in the parent cadre of Los Angeles Kings, his first NHL goal came Parros on 20 October 2005 in the game against the Dallas Stars . In this game, he scored an assist and a fight, a combination unofficially known as the Gordie Howe Hattrick .

On October 3, 2006, the American was signed by the Colorado Avalanche after the Los Angeles Kings had put him on the waiver list. After two missions for the Avalanche, he was transferred to the Anaheim Ducks on November 13, 2006 , with whom he won the Stanley Cup in the 2006/07 season . Parros, who spent over 100 penalty minutes on the bench in five of six seasons in the Anaheim Ducks jersey, set a new franchise record with 812 penalty minutes in 356 regular season fixtures. Dave Karpa , who was active for the Ducks from 1995 to 1998 , had this before with 788 minutes in 245 games.

In early July 2012, the American signed a two-year contract with the Florida Panthers as a free agent . In July 2013 he was transferred to the Canadiens de Montréal in exchange for Philippe Lefebvre and a seven-round suffrage . He stayed there for only a year because the Canadiens did not renew his contract. Therefore, he ended his career in December 2014.

Since September 2017 Parros has been employed as Senior Vice President of Player Safety at the National Hockey League, where he succeeded Stéphane Quintal after three years of service.

Play style

Parros was considered an enforcer who, due to his physical strength, regularly fought fistfights and was generally used as a role player who was considered a fixed part of the fourth series of attacks. His team-friendly style of play was positively highlighted. His poor skating and scorer qualities were seen as weak points.

Parros, known for his mustache and long hair, has them shaved off for charity every Christmas.
