Georges Depeyrot

Georges Depeyrot (* 1953 ) is a French historian , numismatist and publisher of specialist numismatic literature.

Live and act

Depeyrot studied history and received his PhD from the University of Toulouse II in 1977 . In 1992 he completed his habilitation at the University of Franche-Comté in Besançon and has since been involved in various research projects on monetary history and numismatics at home and abroad. Since 2010 he has been a member of the research unit “Archeology and Philology of the Orient and Occident” at ENS-Paris and since 2012 Research Director at the national research center CNRS .

Depeyrot first specialized in Roman numismatics, but then gradually expanded his knowledge to other epochs ( Merovingians , Carolingians ) and territories (Armenia, Romania, Spain, Morocco). His main area of ​​interest is research into the circulation and history of money.

Publishing and publications

From 1994 to 2000 Depeyrot headed the series Collections numismatiques at the publishing house Errance-Actes Sud.

In 1995, Depeyrot founded Edition Moneta ( Wetteren ), which specializes in the publication of specialist numismatic literature and which he still manages today.

To date, Depeyrot has published over 500 individual articles and around 180 authors and editorships of monographs and anthologies, which cover the entire field of numismatics and monetary history.
