Georges Dufrénoy (born June 20, 1870 in Thiais in the Marne Valley , † December 9, 1943 in Salles-en-Beaujolais ) was a French late impressionist painter.

Life

After the time of the Paris Commune in 1871, his parents moved to Paris to the Place des Vosges , where Dufrénoy lived his entire life. He briefly attended the Académie Julian and then learned in the workshop of Désiré Laugée. Influenced by Claude Monet , he painted still lifes and landscapes in an impressionist style. Since he frequently visited Italy, he also chose the areas of Siena , Venice and Genoa as motifs in addition to Paris . In 1912 he painted a fresco painting Pieta in the chapel of St. Pancrace in the village of Grambois in what is now the Vaucluse department . Dufrénoy often exhibited in Paris in the "Salons des Artistes Indépendants" and in the " Salon d'Automne ". His pictures were also shown in 1910 at the “ Exposition Universelle ” in Brussels, in 1921 at the Triennale in Liège and in 1926 in the exhibition “Trente ans d´art indépendant” at the Grand Palais in Paris. In 1929 he received the Carnegie Prize for Nature morte au violon in Pittsburgh . He had his last exhibition in 1939. He died in Salles in Beaujolais , where he spent part of the year. After his death, an exhibition was dedicated to him in 1948 in the Musée Galliera in Paris and in 1992 in the City Hall of the 3rd district of Paris.

In 1936 he became a member of the jury of the Prix ​​de Rome . In 1938 he became an officer in the French Legion of Honor .
