The Jena History Workshop was founded on June 17, 1995, the anniversary of the popular uprising in the GDR in 1953. The founding of the association was preceded by a recommendation by the Enquete Commission "Working on the history and consequences of the SED dictatorship" to investigate the history of resistance and the to research resistant behavior between 1945 and 1989 outside the university. The history workshop in Jena follows the approach of the history workshops (based on the motto "Dig where you are").
