Gerhard Adelmann

Gerhard Adelmann (born May 24, 1925 in Lingen ; † November 7, 2006 ) was a German historian .

Life

Adelmann was born in 1961 with Franz Steinbach at the Philosophical Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn with the dissertation The Social Works Constitution of the Ruhr Mining from the beginning of the 19th Century to the First World War. With special consideration of the Essen Chamber of Commerce and Industry District for Dr. phil. PhD. In 1970 he completed his habilitation with the thesis The Cotton Industry of Northwest Germany and the Western Neighboring Countries in the Transition from the Pre-Industrial to the Early Industrial Period, 1750-1815. Integration and regional differentiation . He received inspiration and support from Franz Steinbach, Wolfgang Zorn and Hans Pohl for his habilitation thesis, which was funded by the German Research Foundation .

In 1971 he became an adjunct professor, in 1974 a scientific councilor and professor and in 1980 a full professor for economic and social history at the Department of History at the University of Bonn. In 1984 he retired. His main research interests were the economic and social history of Northwest Europe and the history of world textiles.
