Gerhard Fellner (born April 24, 1970 in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer ) is a former Austrian soccer player and now soccer coach .
Career
As a player
The universally deployable defensive player from Salzburg has distinguished himself throughout his career primarily because of his dangerousness to goals. He was also considered a wanderer and played for numerous clubs at home and abroad: SV Austria Salzburg , VSE St. Pölten , FC Falkirk (Scotland), VfB Admira Wacker Mödling , FC St. Mirren (Scotland), LASK Linz , SV Pasching , then from 2005 back at LASK Linz.
From 2007 until the end of his career in 2010, Fellner was active at First Vienna FC . In the 2008/2009 season he was used in all 30 games in the Regionalliga Ost and thus played a significant role in the promotion to the first division .
As a trainer
After the 2009/2010 season it was announced that he ended his playing career and instead acted as an assistant coach for the Döblinger team. After Alfred Tatar left , Fellner took over as coach on June 12, 2013 on the Hohe Warte. After less than two months and three defeats at the start of the season, his engagement as head coach of Vienna ended on August 3, 2013. In spring 2015 he took over the coaching position at SKN St. Pölten Juniors in the Regionalliga Ost. This he led confidently from a relegation place to the secured midfield, which also earned him the title of “coach of the season” in an audience vote by ostliga.tv. In the summer of 2015 he worked as Manfred Bender's assistant coach at the second division team SK Austria Klagenfurt . After Bender's release in March 2016, Fellner became head coach until summer 2016. With Austria he had to compulsorily enter the regional league at the end of the season.
In January 2017 he became assistant coach at the second division club SC Wiener Neustadt . After the head coach Roman Mählich left the club after the missed promotion after the 2017/18 season, Fellner took over his post. In May 2019 Wiener Neustadt separated from Fellner.
For the 2020/21 season he became Peter Stöger's assistant coach at Bundesliga club FK Austria Wien .
