Gerhard Sauter

Gerhard Sauter (born May 4, 1935 in Kassel ) is a Protestant theologian .

Life

Gerhard Sauter - first child of pastor Hermann Sauter - studied theology in Tübingen from 1954 to 1956 (with Artur Weiser and his then assistant Otto Kaiser and Hanns Rückert ) and philosophy (especially with the existential philosopher Otto Friedrich Bollnow and the history of philosophy Erwin Metzke ), 1956 until 1959 in Göttingen with Walther Zimmerli , Joachim Jeremias , Ernst Käsemann , Otto Weber , Ernst Wolf and Martin Doerne .

In 1961 he received his doctorate in Göttingen with the dissertation supervised by Otto Weber, The Theology of the Kingdom of God with the elder and the younger Blumhardt . Then he was from 1961 to 1962 vicar in the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck .

From 1962 to 1964 a grant from the German Research Foundation enabled him to study the future and promise. The problem of the future in the current theological and philosophical discussion , with which he completed his habilitation in Göttingen in the spring of 1965 . In 1968 Sauter went to the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz as the successor to Wolfhart Pannenberg , in 1972 he moved to the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , where he became director of the Ecumenical Institute in 1976 and taught as a professor until his retirement in 2000.

From 1975 to 2005, Gerhard Sauter was the editor in charge of the journal proclamation and research . He lives as an author near Bonn.
