Gerhard Steffens

Gerhard Steffens (born October 2, 1927 in Glatz , Glatz district ; † February 3, 1998 in Remagen ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Live and act

Steffens grew up in Silesia and obtained secondary school leaving certificate in 1944. After the expulsion he settled in Bad Breisig . From 1947 to 1949 he completed an apprenticeship for the higher forest service, then attended the forestry school in Hachenburg until 1952 and subsequently worked as a forester . From 1956 he worked as a district officer at the district forester in Bad Breisig. In 1964 he was promoted to chief forester and in 1971 to forestry officer.

He had been a member of the CDU since 1952, and from 1969 to 1979 he was chairman of the CDU local association in Bad Breisig. From 1964 he was first a member of the Bad Niederbreisig municipal council and from 1969 to 1974 of the Bad Breisig city ​​council, where he was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. From 1969 to 1980 and from 1989 to 1990 he was a member of the Ahrweiler district council . From 1980 to 1994 Steffens was the first deputy or first assistant deputy of the district administrator of the Ahrweiler district. In this role, he was primarily involved in the implementation of local government reform in the 1960s and 1970s.

From November 24, 1980, when he replaced the resigned Karl Deres , Steffens was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament until 1996 (9th to 12th electoral period). In the state elections in 1983 and 1987 he was elected to a list of the CDU , in the state elections in 1991 he won the direct mandate in constituency 13 (Remagen / Sinzig) . In the state parliament he was from 1980 to 1987 a member of the committee for agriculture, viticulture and forestry as well as the petitions committee and from 1987 to 1996 a member of the interior committee.

Gerhard Steffens had been married since 1952 and had two daughters.
