Gerhard Swoboda (painter)

Gerhard Swoboda (born January 24, 1923 in Neubistritz ; † July 11, 1974 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .

Life

Gerhard Swoboda and his family moved to Vienna as early as 1926. After abandoning his medical studies, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1946 , among other things as a master student of the sculptor Fritz Wotruba . Later he turned to painting .

His first solo exhibitions took place in 1949 in the Galerie Würthle and in 1951 in the Wiener Konzerthaus . He was represented at the Venice Biennale in 1950 as a sculptor and four years later as a graphic artist. In 1952 he exhibited at the São Paulo Biennale . Gerhard Swoboda was a member of the Art Club , the Vienna Secession and taught at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
