Gerhart Schreiter

Gerhart Schreiter (born August 20, 1909 in Buchholz , Erzgebirge , † April 27, 1974 in Bremen ) was a German sculptor .

biography

Schreiter completed a craft apprenticeship from 1924 to 1927. He studied from 1930 to 1931 at the Fachschule für Edelmetall Schwäbisch Gmünd and from 1931 to 1932 at the Pforzheim School of Applied Arts . He worked in different workshops, in France in 1933 and then in different places in Germany. From 1935 to 1943 he attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy and the Berlin School of Fine Arts .

After the Second World War , Schreiter worked as a freelance sculptor. He received several art awards and was represented in various art exhibitions. In 1956 he was given a teaching position at the Bremen Art School . He was appointed head of the plastics department. He continued to work as a stone and wood sculptor and metal sculptor.

The artistic style of his expressive works was realistic and comprised mainly nudes and architectural sculptures . His estate has been in the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus, Bremen, since 2007. A catalog raisonné by the artist is being prepared in this museum.
